The “home roasting process, has been around for centuries people have chosen to roast the green coffee beans via a variety of methods including using frying pans over a fire and turning by hand. This is a labor intensive method of roasting beans, thankfully there are now other far easier options. There are plenty of reasons to roast your own coffee beans, a lot of people do not realize that coffee beans that have come from different locations and originated from different crops each have a distinctly different flavor, by roasting your own beans you get to sample many different types of beans that would otherwise not be available to you. By drink coffee that has not been roasted yourself you change that the coffee you are drinking may be stale coffee.
A few hardcore coffee drinkers have taken to roasting their own coffee beans with a converted halogen oven. The method used is to attach a arm to the circulating fan of the halogen oven, when the halogen oven is switched
on the arm gently rotates the beans. Results are said to be fantastic often out performing far more expensive purpose built units. Once the coffee beans have been placed within the converted halogen oven, user’s can expect the first crack between 9 and 12 minutes with the second crack being between 1 and 4 minutes later.
